Abstract

The discourse of academic studies has been enriched by the Al-Qur'an, which has opened up discussions of thought and continues to evolve. The Al-Qur'an has an interpersonal relationship with the community as well as an inter-cognitive one. The discursive discourse of the Al-Qur'an has moved from descriptive-narrative analysis to critical analysis. This article delves into the development of thought in the discourse spaces of Al-Qur'an studies that have emerged within the academic community. The article uses two analytical frameworks: the Al-Qur'an study framework and the history of ideas. The first framework is used to map the typology/genre of Al-Qur'an studies, while the second framework is used to analyze shifts in thinking in Al-Qur'an studies. This article draws two conclusions: (1) The development of thinking in the study of the Qur'an reveals a model of thinking with a traditionalist-critical framework. This framework is a traditionalist way of thinking characterized by a transmission-theological dimension. This framework has two periods: first, the Al-Qur'an study period with the character of idrāki-ta'rīfi (knowledge/introduction to the Al-Qur'an). The second period of Al-Qur'an studies was marked by a shift in Al-Qur'an studies from idrāk-ta'rīf towards tadrīs-naqdi studies better known as dirāṡah naqdiyyah lī Al-Qur'ān (the critical studies to the Qur'an). (2) The development of Al-Qur'an studies also reveals models of thinking within the framework of Qirā'ah Al-Qur'an, namely the framework of Al-Qur'an studies that discusses the reading and pronunciation of the Al-Qur'an. Tafhīm Al-Qur'ān is part of the Al-Qur'an study framework which discusses the linguistic study of the Al-Qur'an in the space of interpretation developed through semantic studies. Ta'rīf Al-Qur'ān, the framework for the study of the Qur'an discusses scientific construction efforts to introduce new perspectives in the study of the Qur'an, as for Ta'līm Al-Qur'ān, part of the Al-Qur'an study framework that discusses the study of the Al-Qur'an in the social community space where this study emphasizes analysis of the process of teaching the Al-Qur'an.
